For the 19th year, Düsseldorf will celebrate all things Japanese with its annual Japan Festival on 16th May 2020. As Düsseldorf is one of the most popular places for Japanese businesses in Europe, the Japan Festival attracts around 700,000 visitors every year. The fun event is organised by Düsseldorf’s Japanese community and is a great day out for the whole family. Düsseldorf is home to around 7,000 Japanese nationals and an important city for the Asian community.
Japanese specialities such as sushi, sashimi or tempura and other typical snacks can be sampled. Athletic displays, various stalls celebrating Japanese culture as well as a large area dedicated to the popular Manga comics make it a great event for both adults and children. Traditionally, the event finishes with a Japanese-themed firework display on the River Rhine.
If you’d like to watch the fireworks from the water side, you can book tickets for boat trips here: https://www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/en/boat-tours-on-the-rhine/boat-trip-for-japanese-fireworks-duesseldorf/ or here: https://www.k-d.com/en/events/japanese-fireworks/trips
