Tegernsee Lake – beautiful, relaxing, attractive

Lake Tegernsee is located south-east of Bavaria’s capital city of Munich. I’ve been to this stunning area several times and I never get tired of going back. Lake Tegernsee is only about an hour’s train journey from Munich, so why not combine a trip to the lake with a city break?

The main towns, which are also popular holiday destinations, are Bad Wiessee, Tegernsee, Gmund and Rottach-Egern. I normally stay in Rottach-Egern whenever I’m in the area. It’s a pretty little place with a good choice of hotels and restaurants. There’s a fabulous walk from the town to the foot of the Wallberg Mountain. From there you’ll have the choice of walking up the mountain or taking the mountain railway. Whatever method you choose, the views from the top are absolutely breath-taking. If cycling is more your thing, you’ll find plenty of fantastic cycle routes (suitable for all levels) around the lake and the surrounding area.

Even though Lake Tegernsee is a fabulous place to go any time of year, my favourite months are most definitely May and September.
